Roof of the Year: your GAF entry

Submitted Friday, Oct 16 · GAF confirmation in your email · public voting Nov 1 to 30

Submitted

Ten Point's entry went in on Friday, Oct 16, and GAF sent the confirmation to your email. Both releases and the photo copyright form are signed.

What happens next

  • Nov 1 to 30: public voting on GAF's contest site. GAF says it's for fun and doesn't decide the winners.
  • December: GAF's judges score the entries. Judging runs from Dec 1 to about Dec 31.
  • If the roof wins, GAF runs a background check on the contractor before prizes go out, and it can ask for proof that Ten Point owns the photos. The signed copyright form covers that.
  • Keep GAF's confirmation email, and forward it to Rob so we have a copy on file.

Where it stands

The job: Chris Metro's house with the octagon, 23 Pleasant Ridge Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18302.

We're entering it in GAF's Most Challenging Roof category. The signed contract is Timberline HDZ with a Silver Pledge warranty. GAF's Gold Standard category needs a registered Golden Pledge warranty, and Best Use of Premium Products needs Timberline UHDZ, so Most Challenging Roof is the one this roof fits. If you upgraded this job to Golden Pledge after signing, tell us, and Gold Standard opens up.

Most Challenging Roof needs GAF shingles plus at least 3 qualifying GAF accessories. The signed proposal lists 5: Pro-Start starter strip, FeltBuster, WeatherWatch, Seal-A-Ridge and the Cobra Snow Country ridge vent. GAF scores it on technical complexity as described in your written answer (40%), how well the roof suits the house and what it adds (30%), and beauty (30%). Roofr's report has the roof at 36.1 squares with a 10/12 pitch.

Prizes: each category's grand prize winner gets a $10,000 co-branded media campaign and a case study on GAF.com, and the homeowner gets $10,000. Runners-up get a case study on GAF.com, and their homeowners get $1,000.

Deadline: GAF's contractor guide says entries close at 11:59 a.m. ET on Oct 16. The rules page says 11:59 p.m. We're treating noon as the deadline.

Why the crew isn't in them GAF's rules: no people, no other houses, no other companies' logos, and no AI editing. Photos 1 to 3 are straight from your CompanyCam inspection on Sep 16. The rest come from our drone, and we only cropped two of them.

The before photos Photos 1 to 3 come from your CompanyCam inspection on Sep 16, before any work. We left out shots with your shadow, hands, the satellite dishes or the ADT sign, because GAF doesn't allow people or other companies' logos. If you'd rather use a different one, tell us the time stamp.

Your call on this one

With the homeowner

  1. Get Chris Metro's release signed. Download the homeowner release (PDF). The address is 23 Pleasant Ridge Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18302. Chris fills in his name, email and phone, then signs and dates it. GAF requires him to own the home and be 21 or older.
  2. Check the HOA question. GAF doesn't accept homes in an HOA, condo or similar association. The map puts this house near Saw Creek Estates, so ask Chris whether his lot is part of an association.
  3. Tell them what's in it for them. If the roof wins its category, GAF pays the homeowner $10,000. Runners-up get $1,000. GAF asks winning homeowners for a Social Security number for tax reporting.
  4. Send us the form. Take a clear photo of the signed page and text it to Rob.

Your part

  1. Sign the contractor release. Download the contractor release (PDF). Fill in the job address, print your name, add your email and phone, then sign and date. Photo it and text it to Rob.
  2. Answer the Roof of the Year questions. Questions 13 to 19 on your questions page. We filled in what Roofr and the contract already show, so most of it is a quick confirm. The one that matters most is question 19, what made this roof hard. It feeds the written answer GAF scores for 40%. Your answers become the facts you cover in GAF's three written answers, in your own words.

With GAF

  1. Register the warranty. Roofr has had this job at "Submit Warranty" since Oct 7. Most Challenging Roof doesn't ask for a warranty number, so this doesn't hold up the entry.
  2. Check your Master Elite status is current. GAF requires your certification from the install through the prize award.
  3. Submit through your GAF login. Entries go in at RoofOfTheYear.com with your GAF Partner Portal sign-in. We can't sign in for you, so we'll have the photos, both signed forms and the facts for the written answers ready, and do it with you.
